Zonta's Day of Film 2015 was held March 21, 2015.
Zonta’s Seventh Annual Day of Film, March 21, 2015, was “Jhola,” Nepal’s 2015 submission to the Oscars for Best Foreign Film. “Jhola” depicts the Sati tradition in which Hindu women were forced to commit suicide on the funeral pyres of their spouses. While the system was legally abolished in 1920 in Nepal, communities still follow the practice, and murder of widows continues to this day. There is documentation of Sati being practiced as recently as 2008, and word of mouth indicates it may still be adhered to. However horrific the practice of Sati, the movie also shows the redeeming strength of people banding together to improve their circumstances.
